THE GREEN SPACE HEALTH AUDIT IS AVAILABLE AT NO CHARGE TO PARKS CHARITIES, COUNCILS AND ABLE VOLUNTEERS WILLING TO ASSESS THEIR PARKS FOR HEALTH, UNTIL DECEMBER 2021.
THIS IS YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH OF THE NATION!
As we enter a ‘new normal’ the need for health promoting outdoor spaces has never been greater, yet funding is likely to be scarce. We need to be innovative, share skills and resources and increase the use of parks for health.
To play our part in restoring the health of the nation, we are now making the FULL Green Space Health Audit FREE throughout the UK, until October 2020. This will allow Friends of Parks Groups, Councils, and other stakeholders to create detailed Green Space Health Audits themselves, at no cost.
This full audit identifies the current health status of a park, with lists of improvements, and new opportunities. It shows how parks can be used to promote mental health, support social engagement, and encourage physical activity. In addition, it supports health promotion, and creates links to social (natural) prescribing and offers guidance on health promotion.
The full Green Space Health Audit also provides the basis for the development of Green Space Health Strategies, linking parks to Public Health, the NHS, Friends of Parks Groups, local charities, and the wider community.
The Health Parks Initiative is explained in this video.
The Health Parks Toolkit is already used by Friends of Parks Groups and Councils. Green Space Health Strategies have been developed by Tisdall Associates for Lambeth, Islington, Camden, and Haringey. These have been used to identify physical improvements to parks and have provided the opportunity to explore new funding and develop integrated implementation strategies around the use of parks for health.
Creating a Green Space Health Audit is the first step towards optimising your parks for health.
Lets make a difference and help the NHS and our communities.
