SHARE THE VISION

Many have a vision for the creation of health promoting places and spaces. To deliver on this vision positive interventions are required to deliver a rural and urban realm which supports health and wellbeing. In so doing this will also reduce avoidable ill-health in the community, the impacts of climate change and will deliver biodiversity enhancement.

Parks are important “Determinants of Health”. These are physical attributes in the environment which have a direct bearing on health and wellbeing. From a review of original academic research, elements associated with health have been identified,. These are included within the the ‘Parks for Health assessment’ allowing such elements to be identified and practical improvements and new interventions introduced. These health promoting elements have been categorized within the health criteria of accessibility, physical activity, mental wellbeing, environment and biodiversity. In addition elements associated with health promotion and green social prescribing have also been identified. Together these allow green spaces to be utilized to promote health and wellbeing, to strengthen social cohesion and create sustainable resilient communities.

OUR partnerS CAN COME from MANY SECTORS:

The Health Parks initiative has been used by Councils and Charity Groups across the UK for audits, technical reports and green space health strategies. These include Islington, Camden, Redbridge, Haringey, Edinburgh and East Sussex, as well as a wide range of parks across Bristol, Swindon, the West Midlands and beyond. Given the breadth of the evidence base upon which it is based, the initiative also has international application. In addition to enhancing the health of local communities, and providing potential access to funding for parks and green spaces, there are further benefits for a range of stakeholders. These include:

National Government and the NHS.

Local Councils.
